DESCRIPTION:Historian and Colonel William Crawford re-enactor\, Mark Cory\, will speak about Colonel Crawford’s life and accomplishments during the American Revolution period. \nCrawford was a close friend of George Washington and a trusted frontier officer who played a key role in early American expansion and military efforts during the Revolutionary era. William Crawford served as a Continental Army officer and frontier leader during the American Revolution\, helping defend western settlements from British-allied Native American forces. He commanded militia expeditions in the Ohio Country\, most notably leading the ill-fated Sandusky Expedition in 1782\, a part of the “western theater” of the Revolution. The event is free to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Learn about Crawford County’s paths of the Lincoln Highway\, America’s first coast-to-coast road in air-conditioned comfort. We will also share stories about the path of Col. Crawford’s Revolutionary War campaign in 1782 to Upper Sandusky. \nWe will board a bus at the Sandusky Headwaters Preserve located across the road from Lowe-Volk Park\, 2401 OH-598 Crestline at 12 p.m. This tour will return before 5:30 pm. Interested youths accompanied by an adult are encouraged to attend. DESCRIPTION:The dates for the 2026 season of “Ohio Open Doors” will be September 10th to September 20th\, 2026. \nThe Ohio History Connection created Ohio Open Doors in 2016 to promote and inspire pride in Ohio’s heritage and to celebrate the National Historic Preservation Act. Signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on Oct. 15\, 1966\, the Act has proven instrumental in transforming the face of communities from coast to coast\, establishing the legal framework and incentives to preserve historic buildings\, landscapes and archaeological sites. The Act drives economic revitalization by attracting investment\, supporting small business\, stabilizing neighborhoods and creating jobs. “Ohio Open Doors shares stories of important landmarks and interesting places right in our communities\, highlighting the history and unique nature of some of Ohio’s most treasured sites\,” says Diana Welling\, Director of the Ohio History Connection’s State Historic Preservation Office.
