On March 1st, the air at The Hub in Crestline was filled with more than just patriotic music—it was filled with the spirit of a community ready to claim its place in the American story. Hosted by the Crawford County History Alliance (CCHA), the “America 250-OH Kickoff and Big Birthday Bash” served as the official launch for a yearlong celebration leading up to our nation’s 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026.
As reported by Crawford County Now, the event was a unique “triple celebration.” Not only did it mark the start of the national semi-quincentennial observance, but it also coincided with Ohio’s 223rd birthday and served as a precursor to Crawford County’s own upcoming bicentennial.
The afternoon began with a warm welcome from Crestline Mayor Linda Pitt, who emphasized that this year is about exploring the “everyday citizens whose lives built the America we know today.”
The celebration was truly a collaborative effort, bringing together all 14 CCHA member organizations. Attendees were treated to:
One of the most exciting moments of the bash was the official premiere of the 2026 CCHA Passport Program. This initiative invites residents and visitors to travel across the county, visiting various historical sites to collect stamps. It’s a “call to action” for families to discover the hidden gems in their own backyard.
Alongside the passport debut, the CCHA unveiled its new Storytelling Banners. Each of the 14 member organizations now has a dedicated banner highlighting a specific person, place, or era. Together, these banners form a countywide tapestry that illustrates how Crawford County’s local history fits into the larger narrative of the United States.
CCHA Chairman Randy Fischer reminded those in attendance that history is a living thing. “Hosting events such as this America 250 Kickoff demonstrates that history is not sitting on a shelf—it is alive in this room,” Fischer noted.
By bringing together artifacts from the Bucyrus Copper Kettle Works, the Galion History Center, the Crestline Historical Museum, and many others, the event successfully bridged the gap between the past and the present.
As we look toward July 4, 2026, the momentum from this kickoff will continue to ripple through our community. We invite you to grab a passport, visit our member sites, and join us in celebrating the resilience and spirit of our nation.
