Our mission is to preserve and promote the legacy and
historical significance of the Port Bucyrus-Crawford
County Airport and to highlight the impact and
contributions of Bucyrian Lauretta Schimmoler.
Lauretta Schimmoler was the first woman to start and
manage a municipal airport, Port Bucyrus. Later, she
founded the Aerial Nurse Corps of America, which was
the predecessor to today’s Life Flight Services.
